Chris Rice Avatar

“Let’s change our language. Let’s not talk about ‘the poor’ anymore. We talk about our friends. The problem is, most of us don’t have friends who are poor. That speaks to the poverty of our friendships.” — Chris Heuertz, co-international executive director of Word Made Flesh

The frightening thing about moving from labels ON people to being friends WITH people … is that we are saying you are no longer an object to be evaluated but a person to be appreciated.

The frightening thing with friends across class, is that we can no longer pretend to be oblivious to our privilege, it becomes obvious.
