Prophets. We may not like them. But we surely need them. Two fresh prophetic voices emerged at the Lausanne Cape Town Congress.
In a major plenary, Chris Wright, International Director of Langham Partnership International, named the church’s idolatry “as the single biggest obstacle to world mission.” Evangelicals, he said, “attack the world and ignore our own failures.” Wright named three idols: power and praise, popularity and success, and wealth and greed. He described a church often obsessed with statistics and ended with a powerful call to humility, integrity, and simplicity. Watch Wright’s address here …
Rainner Chu a Filipino lawyer (who slept on Cape Town’s streets the night before), spoke of the challenge of finding people representing the urban poor at Lausanne. He provocatively engaged three global trends—globalization, urbanization, and marginalization, and two kinds of people engaging the cities—“pyramid builders and relationship builders.” Watch Chu’s presentation here …
Admist a bit too much inspiration, these were voices of profound analysis. Watch, comment, and forward to others.
